Teen Girls Home

foto

Founded in May of 2002, it occupies the upper part of the Casa Leonel building, and has a capacity for 12 girls of 12 years of age and older. Many of these girls come from Casa Matriz and Casa Belen. We want to meet their needs to the point where they have received the education they desire, have entered the workforce and can integrate themselves into society.

Gaby’s mom brought her to the orphanage in August 1998, as she was a single mother, who had to work full time, leaving Gaby by herself in the home. Gaby’s older sister, Erika, had run away from home about a year earlier, and had already come to live at the children’s home at that time. Gaby attends a school for special needs children as she has some learning disabilities, and in this environment receives the extra attention she requires. Gaby has participated in Special Olympics, and excelled in the 100 meter sprint, even winning medals on a national level. Gaby has many obstacles ahead of her to overcome but we believe that with the help of the Lord, she has the possibility of a bright future.

Selena came to the children’s home in August 2003, along with her sister Karina. The girls also have a brother who is living in another shelter in the city. All three children had been abandoned, and the girls had also been living in the other shelter, but we were approached to receive them, as the shelter is only a short-term facility. It was felt that it was in the girls’ best interest to be in a home where there would be more stability and allow them the opportunity to become part of the family here. Selena was a very quiet girl when she arrived, hardly speaking, and keeping to herself. She has since become more outgoing and is building relationships with the other girls and workers in the home.

Isabel first arrived at our home for girls in Ciudad Guzman.  She was only there for a few months when we had to close the home, so she chose to move to Colima and enter our Teen Girls’ Home, rather than return to live with her mother.

Isabel is with us because she was very neglected.  She had been living in a small town, and because nobody cared for her, she spent a lot of time in the streets, which was an unsafe situation for a young girl.

Isabel has adapted to the home and is very happy here.  She is a dedicated student, she is quick to show her appreciation, and is making the best of all the opportunities that God has given her.  It is a joy to see her contagious smile.

 Brenda Guadalupe

Brenda arrived at the children’s home in August, 2008, along with her younger brother Isaac. She is in the Teen Girls’ home and Isaac is in our home for teen boys.  Brenda was in the same dilemma that many of our children find themselves - the father abandons the family, leaving the mother to provide for the children and care for them at the same time.  In order for Brenda’s mother to work, she had no daycare, and had to leave her young children alone by themselves for long periods of time.

Brenda has lived through some difficult situations, but in spite of that, she is very adaptable to new things, and is eagerly taking in all she is learning about the love of God.

Glenda is living in the Casa Señoritas. She arrived in January 2006, and is here with us because she had been spending a lot of time in the streets because her mother wasn’t caring for her. The situation was reported to Social Services and she was picked up and brought to us. When Glenda arrived, she was upset and didn’t want to stay here. She refused to respect the workers and was disobedient. However, she quickly made friends with the other girls and is now very happy to be in the home, behaving well and is respectful to others. She is working hard at school and we are happy to see the transformation in her.

Monica and her twin sister Ana Luisa arrived at the children’s home in October 2004. Her older sister Andrea also came at the same time. The girls are with us because their single mother was finding it too difficult to support them. She was working long hours and her shift would change every week, so at times the girls were left alone late at night, creating a dangerous situation. In addition, both Monica and her sister Ana Luisa had asthma and needed to take expensive medication on a regular basis. When Monica arrived, she was using an inhaler regularly to control her asthma, but since she has been with us in the home, we have seen a marked improvement in both her emotional and physical health, and now no longer requires the inhaler.

Andrea came to live in the children’s home in October 2004, along with her two sisters, Anilu and Monica. Andrea’s mother is single and had to work long hours in order to meet the needs of her three children. Her shifts often varied, and at times she would have to work until late at night, a dangerous situation for three young girls. Even though the mother worked long hours, her wage wasn’t sufficient to be able to meet the needs of her children, particularly because she was faced with large medical bills as both Andrea’s sisters have asthma. When Andrea arrived, she had a bad concept of children’s homes, and therefore was very much afraid. She is now very happy in the home and has made great friends with the rest of the girls.

LESLIE SANCHEZ RAMIREZ

Leslie joined the other young ladies in the Teen Girls’ Home in January 2009.

Leslie is with us because her mom had abandoned her when she was just 3 years old, leaving her in the care of a lady she knew.  Social Services received a complaint about this lady and the way she was mistreating Leslie.  She was removed from the lady’s house and brought to us.

Leslie is a easy girl to love with her quiet nature and her willingness and gratitude to be in the home.  We believe that the Lord has great plans for Leslie’s life and we look forward to seeing all that He has for her.

Jazmin came to live in our Teen Girl’s home in August 2009.

Jazmin was only 9 months old when her mom abandoned her and left her in the care of an aunt.  From a very early age Jazmin was obligated to take care of a relative who had Cerebral Palsy.  When Social Services was made aware of the situation, they removed Jazmin from the home and brought her to us.

Jazmin is recuperating what is left of her childhood and is now able to enjoy life and attend school.

MA. GUADALUPE QUIROZ CONTRERAS

Lupita has been living in our Teen Girls’ Home since October 2008.

Lupita is with us because she had been abandoned by her mother at the age of 3 years.  A lady had been taking care of her basic needs, but she was severely lacking a maternal figure.  She is very active and soon found herself getting into trouble.  She came to stay with us for a time but found the adjustment difficult and returned to the lady’s house.  It wasn’t long before she was back on Social Services’ doorstep, and they once again brought her to us.  Lupita is now trying harder and is in fact happy to be back in the home.

Lupita is now more calm and willing to follow the house rules.  We know that God has a plan and purpose for her life and we look forward to seeing what the future holds for her.
