The New Esperanza House
Started in August of 2006 in the town of Esperanza, Jalisco, we take
care of boys older than 13 years. Our intentions are to teach them a
trade and also to have them study in the school. This house started
when it was a training center, with 3 to 4 boys older than 14 years
old. They helped finish the house while learning a trade. The total
capacity of the home will be 16 young men.

"Ani" and her
little sister Mehiel came to live in the Casa Cuna in August 2007. These two
girls needed a place to live because their father was in jail, and their mother
had just entered “Hogar Belen”, our women’s formation house. Their mom had tried
to raise the two little girls on her own but realized that she didn’t have the
life skills to be able to care for herself, let alone two small children.
Recognizing her need for help, she has made a commitment to complete the
formation program at Hogar Belen while we care for the girls. Ani is quite timid
and shy and likes to evaluate situations from a distance before she enters in.
She is not very outgoing, but in spite of that she gets along well with her
sister and the other children. Ani’s mom is learning about the difference that
Jesus can make in a person’s life, and that is the same hope that we are
teaching Ani and Mehiel. We trust that Ani will embrace the love of Jesus as she
learns to trust him.

At
first glance
she seems delicate and fragile, but as we have gotten to
know her, we have discovered a strong character hiding behind those big
eyes! It is a pleasure to teach Mehiel about the love of Jesus and
offer hope for her future as she learns to trust in Him.

Carlos
is the 9th child of a family of 10 children. He is living in our home
in the town of Esperanza Jalisco, along with his two older sisters
Nayeli and Marisol, and his older brother Miguel. The four children
were apprehended by social services because they were being mistreated
and neglected. Their father has a physical handicap and their mother’s
work is inappropriate for raising small children.
Carlos was very sick and weak when he arrived at the home and cried a
lot. Because of his age, he had suffered less in the family home than
his older siblings so the transition was more difficult for him because
he actually missed his mom. We thank the Lord for the changes we see in
Carlos’ life. He is a happy little guy who is always smiling. He likes
to keep himself clean and while he doesn’t talk much yet, he still
loves to socialize with the other people in the home. We know that
Jesus has great things in store for Carlos.

Nayeli
Guadalupe is the 6th child in a family of 10 children. She is living in
our home in Esperanza, along with three of her brothers and sisters,
Carlos, Michelle Marisol and Miguel.
The children were brought to us by Social Services because they were
being mistreated and neglected. Their father has a physical handicap
and their mother’s work is inappropriate for raising small children.
Nayeli suffered physical and emotional abuse at the hands of her father
and arrived very hurt and broken. We are grateful that she has put her
trust in the Lord and is overcoming her past. She always had a ready
smile and loves to talk with anybody who will listen.

Esperanza along with his sisters Nayeli and Marisol and his brother
Carlos.

being mistreated and neglected. Their father has a physical handicap
and their mother’s work is inappropriate for raising small children.
Miguel was very serious, fearful and quiet when he first arrived at the
home. He wouldn’t play with the other children and preferred to be
alone. Now that he has been with us for awhile, we notice great changes
in him. He now plays willingly with the other children and is enjoying
his school. He is intelligent and loves to help out around the home -
especially if it means that he can be close to the house “mom”. We know
that Jesus has great things in store for Miguel’s future.

Marisol is the 8th child in a family of 10 brothers and sisters. She is
living in our home Esperanza along with her sister Nayeli and her
brothers Carlos and Miguel.
The four children were apprehended by social services because they were
being mistreated and neglected. Their father has a physical handicap
and their mother’s work is inappropriate for raising small children.
"Marisol” arrived very emotionally damaged. She was very fearful and
baby-like in many ways. She was in the first stage of malnutrition. Now
that she is in a place where she is loved and accepted, the Lord has
done a miracle in her life. Marisol now goes to bathroom herself, and
at age 4, her first word was “mama”. She has gained weight and is now
friendly and open with the other children. We know that as Marisol
trusts in Jesus, that He will complete the good work that He has begun
in her life.

“Monse”
was literally “dropped off” by her father at our home in Esperanza. We
had already received her older brother and sister, Carlos and Fernanda,
and her dad decided that he couldn’t care for her anymore. When he
arrived at the Home and discovered that there was no one there because
staff and children alike were away for the weekend, he left Monse at
the neighbor’s house and away he went. The children were abandoned by
their mother when she left the kids with a neighbour and took off. A
short time later she was put into prison for a serious crime. The
father picked the children up from the neighbor’s house but was unable
to care for them all and left the first two, and then Monse with us.
Monse was somewhat aggressive when she first arrived. We have noticed
positive changes in her in the time she has been with us. She now plays
better with the other children and is not as serious or quiet as she
was in the beginning. We believe that this little girl “dropped in” on
us for a reason and that the Lord has great things in store for her.

Brayan arrived at the
children’s home in October 2008, along with his younger sister Naomi and his
cousin Jesus. All three children are
living in our home in Esperanza. Brayan
and Naomi are with us because their mother passed away a few years ago from an
illness. They had been living with their
grandma, who also “inherited” her other grandchild, Jesus, when his mother
abandoned him and left the State. The
grandmother tried to make do, but was unable to support her three grandchildren,
and would leave them alone while she worked.
Brayan has already had to
deal with a lot in his short life, but seems to be happy in the Home. It is a joy for us to be able to introduce
him to the One who will never leave him or abandon him.

“Chuy”, as we
affectionately call him, arrived at the children’s home in October 2007. He was living with his grandmother after
being abandoned by his mom. The problem
was that the grandma was also caring for her other two grandchildren, Brayan
and Naomi, after the death of their mother, and even though she tried, she was
not able to provide for all of them. All
three children arrived together, and are living in our Home in Esperanza.
Chuy quickly learned to
trust the workers in the home and look to them for comfort. We trust that as he understands the teachings
about Jesus, that Chuy will accept the One who will never leave him or forsake
him.
